FAQ's
What is the TS5K?
This race is held in honor of a great man. One of Neuqua Valley’s most inspiring staff members, Tom Schlegel passed away on October 13th, 2006, after fighting a year long battle of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. As a former physical education teacher and assistant football coach, he has impacted the lives of many over the years. Defined by his faith, love, and character, Schlegel was a humble man always putting others before himself and never taking recognition for anything. A loving husband, dedicated father, approachable teacher, motivating coach, and loyal friend, Schlegel simply lived life “the way everyone should.”
The race came about from Tom’s love of runs and fitness. Friends and family have been putting this race on for several years and it has been wonderful!
When is the race this year?
The Tom Schlegel 5K race will be held on Sunday, May 15th, 2011.
The race used to be in June...why the date change?
We wanted to be able to include as many people as possible in the event and we were competing with vacations and other races that took place as soon as school got out. We also hope this date change will get more people to come out and run!
Where does the proceeds from the race go?
All proceeds benefit the Tom Schlegel Children’s Trust, the Tom Schlegel Scholarship fund, and the Neuqua Valley Physical Education Department
How much does the race cost?
The pre-registered participants will pay $30 for the race through active.com. This price includes a race goody bag with items from our sponsors, a water bottle, a t shirt, and post-race snacks and drinks.
Can I register for the race on the morning of the race?
Yes, but the day of registration fee is $35 for day of registrants. There is a price difference because we really have to scramble to get last minute add ons into our system. T-shirts are guaranteed to preregistered participants. Day of registrants will not be guaranteed the size that they may want.
When does the raffle take place?
The raffle takes place after the last finisher crosses the line. It will be held in the auxillary gym near door 46. You will also find your post-race refreshments.
How do I get raffle tickets?
You may pre-purchase your tickets through active.com when you register.
How does that raffle work?
Items are donated from local companies and tickets are placed in the item box that you would like to win. Your name will be on each of your tickets so you can hear your name called when you win.
I want to get a lot of tickets, but don't want to write my name on the tickets. Is there another way?
YES! We have volunteers that will write your name neatly on each of your tickets. Buy them at active.com or before the race starts near the registration area and you can pick them up after you are done. They will be ready for you and you won't have to do any of the work. Good luck!
I have a company that would like to donate a prize for the raffle. What items do you accept?
We are very fortunate to have lots of companies donate prizes each year and would love to add you to the list. No item is too small or big. Contact the race director before April 15th, 2011.
